Angel City spring 07

4/24 by SportsterJohn.  Imagine Disney Land in a wild west setting.  Remove everything wholesome and family oriented and replace it with beer, leather and half dressed chicks; throw in 10,000 bikers and you get Angel City. I had been following the progress of this place for about a year or so.  The owner has a website which he was updating on a regular basis so people could follow the construction progress.  I was always wondering what the final result would be.  Bottom line is that it is a stroke of genius.  This is the perfect environment for a bike rally. As you know, in the past few years, bike rallies have been popping up like mushrooms and in a lot of cases cannibalizing each other.   I guess over time the good ones will survive and the crap ones won't.  I am pretty sure that Angel City will be one around for a while.

I decided to take the back roads to get to Angel City which is located in Unadilla.  I won't spend much time describing the ride;  I will only say that middle Ga. is pretty deserted and it would suck to break down on one of these state roads in the middle of nowhere. It took me about 4hrs to get there and I was already sun burnt by the time I arrived.  I don't know why I do this but every single April when I take my 1st long ride in hot weather, I fry myself.  After the 1st burn, I am usually good for the rest of the year.  For those that prefer the super slab,  Angel City is located right off I 75 at exit 122.  I arrived there at 4, paid my money at the gate then rode onto the property.  There is a lot of area for tent camping in the front.  I saw hundreds of tents in this area.

Front Camping Area

After riding through the tent area,  I arrived at the main rally area.  It is set up as an old western town.  The main drag is lined with vendor shops, restaurants and bars.  You can pretty much find anything you want here.  There is also stage in this area for bands to play on.  This though really is considered the secondary stage,  there is a larger stage over by the RV area.  I will get to that in a bit.

Main Street

I wandered up and down main street checking out what the vendors were selling and looking around to see if I knew anyone.  I ran into Yank from US Rider News Mag.  We chatted for a little while about upcoming events and various BS. After a few minutes, I saw a few members of a club that I am familiar with ride in.  I took off to go say hello to them.  Didn't find them at that time though.  As I mentioned, this place was crowded and huge. I wandered around for a bit more, stopped to say hey to a few members of another local club that I know and then ran into Diver from the USMVMC.  In a way it was a bit amusing in that the COC meeting was also going on that day.  The problem is that I forgot about that.  Apparently so did half of the other people because I saw damm near everyone that I normally see at  COC at the rally. After tooling around main street taking in the sites (and there are plenty of them)

I decided to check out the rest of the grounds. There were easily more than 300 RVs over in the RV area.  Mixed in, there were also a few more vendors and a few more places to get food.  The main stage is also in this area.  The rally organizer did a great job securing talent for this thing.  Psych Nyne, The Pat Savage Band and Confederate Rail Road were the main bands.  They all put on great shows.

Mullet, Prospect Moreno and Muddy VNV/LV MC

After taking my main tour of the place,  I stopped in one of the bars to cool off and to get some water.  I ran into Muddy from VNVMC.  He had his brother Mullet and his prospect Moreno with him.  They pretty much adopted me for the rest of the day and we sat in the bar to avoid the heat for an hour or 2 and shot the shit.  Breeze from FSMC  wandered in.  I talked to him for a few and then went back to hang out with my adopted escorts for the day.  We decided to go into wander mode for a while.  We walked up and down main street for a few taking in the sites.

We heard some noise from the stage area and went down there to see what was happening.  We found out that we had just missed the wet t-shirt contest.  Mullet and Moreno were visibly shaken by this. Oh well there is always the internet to look at tits that you will never see again. About this time they were setting up for the stunt show.  The stunt show was a group of dirt bike riders and a large ramp.  Hats off to these guys, they are a lot crazier than I would ever be.  You can see a bunch of pics from their jumps on the pics page.

After watching these guys for a few, we listened to the Pat Savage band for a little while.  These guys are smoking!

After they were done.  We wandered back to main street to see what was going on.  The alcohol had kicked in for a bunch of the people and it was starting to get a little rowdy.  It's funny that when beer and bikes are around, lady's shirts seem to come off.  Remind me to bring Mardi Gras beads next time.  At about 10, we headed back down to the stage to catch Confederate Rail Road.  They put on a great show.  A little more country oriented than I normally listen to but they could crank it up when they want.  After listening to them for an hour or so we all decided it was about time to head out.  Next time, I am bringing camping gear for sure.  They have a 'special' camping area called the hog pen where there are things going on that you usually only see on pay per view channels.  However,  since I did not have camping gear and most of the people I knew were also gone or were heading out, I decided to head back up to Cobb co.  I hit 75n and cranked the bike up to about 85 or so and managed to make it home by 1:15.  It took me all day Sunday to recover and I didn't even drink.  Overall, this is one kick ass rally.  I really believe that it has the potential to replace some of the other rallies and become one of the main events in the South!
